To conserve Digital Art in 3D [made between 2005 to 2011] you need to take into account that in 10 or 20 years all the technology [that was used] will no longer work. The tools and platforms need to be frozen and conserved now – or they will when in the future needed for a retrospective no longer work. To say: there will be allways a ´virtual machine´ or an emulator is unrealistic and often even impossible as the way some tools are developed are based on a forced update sceme.
